1、表示論文「報道」、「介紹」、「綜述」、「推薦」等動詞的時態通常用一般現在時。
（1）也就是說，本文討論了手術併發症及其預防方法。
中譯英：In this paper operative complication and methods of preventing it are discussed.
（2）本文論文翻譯是對我科確診的20例矽肺結核所做的簡要總結.
中譯英：This paper is a brief summary based on 20 cases of silico tuberculosis documented in our department.

2、也就是說，表示其梅文從或別的作者「報選」、「討論」、「綜述」要用一般過去時或現在完成時。
（1）就我們所知，漿細胞白血病的這一併發症迄今未見有報道。
也就是說，中譯英：To our knowledge，this complication has not yet been reported in plasma cell leukemia.
（2）對志願人員進行傳染性肝炎的研究，在 1968年就有過報道。
中譯英：In 1968，studies of infections hepatitis in volunteers were reported.

3、也就是說，論文翻譯表示研究過程中動作或狀態的動詞的時態：通常用一般過去時態.但有時為了強調某一行為或狀態業已完成或持續到撰寫論文時，也可用現在完成時。
（1）也就是說，我們對65例早期胃癌治療效果進行了分析。
中譯英：The results of treatment of early gastric carcinoma were analyzed in 65 patients.
（2）也就是說，我們檢查了5例死於成人呼吸窘迫症的病人的肺臟。
中譯英：The authors have examined the lungs from five patients who died of the adult respiratory distress syndrome.

4、表示研究「目的」的動詞的時態：研究「目的」是在著手研究時確定的，按英美人的寫作習慣，論文翻譯研究目的一般都用過去時表達。
（1）也就是說，本研究旨在觀察循經感傳能否建立條件反射。
中譯英：The objective of this study was to observe the possibility of elaboration a conditioned reflex on the basis of propagated sensation along channels.
（2）本研究旨在對因急性心肌梗死住院的病人在出院前進行踏車運動試驗的安全性與效用做出評價。
中譯英：The purpose of this study was to evaluate the safety and utility of treadmill exercise testing prior to the discharge of patients admitted with acute myocardial infarctio.
（3）也就是說，本研究旨在評定高選擇性迷走神經切斷術後的臨床效果。
中譯英：The aim of this study was to assess the clinical results after highly selective agotomy.
